FFTA’s FREE Art Group for Adoptees

Forever Families Through Adoption is proud to announce the continuation of the FREE Art Group for Adoptees, an art themed socialization group for school age adoptees.  The group will focus on the expression of emotions through art, and creating an open forum for discussion about the participants’ feelings about adoption.  Groups will be led by FFTA employee, Becca Leitman, MSW, adoption counselor.  Adoption will be the common thread that holds the group together, and will be addressed as it is brought up by the participants.

The goals of the Art Group for Adoptees are for children to have fun participating in art related activities, to get to know peers and adults who share the experience of domestic or international adoption, to normalize these experiences and the accompanying emotions, to develop the skills and self-esteem of each adoptee, and to provide respite for adoptive parents.

The Art Group for Adoptees was created by Becca Leitman, MSW, to draw together her passion for art and her work in adoption.  As an adoptee, Becca realizes the importance of having a shared experience with other adoptees and as an artist and social worker, wanted to create an environment for adoptees to have a cathartic experience through art.

FFTA’s Art Group for Adoptees will serve adoptees in Westchester County and surrounding areas, and is open to those adopted by agency (private or public) or attorney assisted adoptions.  Participants will fill out necessary paperwork to register, including parent/guardian written approval.  All services are provided free of charge and participants are responsible for their own transportation.

The group will meet bi-monthly for sixty minute sessions on October 10, October 24, November 7, November 14, November 28, and December 5 on Wednesday afternoons from 4:00pm – 5:00pm at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church 761 King Street Rye Brook, NY 10573.

If you or anyone you know is interested in learning more about registering for FFTA’s Art Group for Adoptees or donating art supplies to the group, please contact Becca at FFTA at

Hi, Thank you both for the feedback. Aiden, were you trying to post as a board message? There mightRead More have been some kind of technical glitch that our IT team is working out. In regards to your other comments, I urge you to give it a little time to get used to. The little bell at the top right of the page has a red circle with a number in it to tell you that someone has commented or interacted with something you have done so you should be able to go there and see exactly what is going on in the places where you posted. I hope this helps!

I agree with Aidan. I would check the Patch once a day for the articles, but several times to seeRead More how a discussion progressed. With the new format, that method is virtually impossible.

Btw, I tried for twenty minutes to post this as a new thread ... I finally gave up because pageRead More after page did zero ... just spun me nowhere. A waste.

Linda T., I would guess Mrs. Brakewood lives in Port Chester if she is running for the Port ChesterRead More Board of Ed. Even if the schools had to impose an austerity budget, your taxes would still go up. The state has more control in these matters than you think.

Linda, the per pupil expenditure in PC schools is the lowest in Westchester and Rockland countiesRead More ... by about $2,000 per student. The issue is two fold. First, our property values are not as strong as our neighbors, so our homes have a higher levy in order to fund the schools. Second, and more important, is that the reliance on property taxes slams moderate income communities like PC. We need for the state to move to an income tax to fund schools. Scream at your legislators ... not the BoE.

I am concerned there is not enough attention to detail in the BOE budget overall and Mrs. BrakewoodRead More comment about keeping taxes affordable ... where does she live ? they are out of control and in my opinion the money we pay for taxes we should have the best looking schools anywhere ... just my opinion
