Summer Theater: Couples Invited to Renew Wedding Vows Live On Stage

Lawnchair Theatre Company of Port Chester Council for the Arts puts on Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing” in August.

Love will be in the air — and on stage — this summer in Port Chester.

Married couples of all ages are invited to renew their wedding vows in front of friends, family and a live theater audience as part of the Lawnchair Theatre Company’s August productions of Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing.”

Couples can sign up to be included in any of the five outdoor evening productions, set for Friday, Aug. 3, at Rye Town Park; Saturday, Aug. 4 at Pine Ridge Park in Rye Brook; Thursday, Aug. 9 at Lyon Park in Port Chester; Friday, Aug. 10 at Crawford Park in Port Chester, and ending Saturday, Aug. 11 at Lyon Park.

All shows begin at 5:45 p.m. Admission is free with a suggested donation.

“Much Ado About Nothing” is a fast-paced romantic comedy of misunderstandings, subterfuge, rumors, mind games and an eventual happy ending featuring a double wedding celebration.  At intermission, director will invite participating couples to join him and Rye Town officiants including , Rye Brook Mayor Joan Feinstein and onto the set for a picturesque group vow renewal ceremony inspired by the participating couples, whose names and years married will each be announced.

“We’ll supply the officiant, costumed revelers, a romantic setting, music, flowers for the bride and wedding cake for the crowd," said Green. "The  couples supply the love, inspiration and true romance.”

Couples can sign up for their selected date and location at www.LawnChairTheatre.org or via LawnChair Theatre on Facebook, which will post updates leading to each event.

If it rains, the events may be moved inside or postponed.

Btw, I tried for twenty minutes to post this as a new thread ... I finally gave up because pageRead More after page did zero ... just spun me nowhere. A waste.

If Patch was meant to be both a community news source and a site for community opinions, well, theRead More new format has undermined both of those intentions. The site is unfriendly for even casual perusing and even more user-unfriendly for any sort of dialogue between readers and those who wish to make comments. It might have been a well-intentioned make-over, but it's diminished user traffic and turned folks off. Local issues used to be aired here ... and then debated and commented on by the folks most impacted by those issues. That's all been sabotaged by the new format. Better to admit your error or face the reality of less user traffic and probably less ad revenue as well.

Linda T., I would guess Mrs. Brakewood lives in Port Chester if she is running for the Port ChesterRead More Board of Ed. Even if the schools had to impose an austerity budget, your taxes would still go up. The state has more control in these matters than you think.

Linda, the per pupil expenditure in PC schools is the lowest in Westchester and Rockland countiesRead More ... by about $2,000 per student. The issue is two fold. First, our property values are not as strong as our neighbors, so our homes have a higher levy in order to fund the schools. Second, and more important, is that the reliance on property taxes slams moderate income communities like PC. We need for the state to move to an income tax to fund schools. Scream at your legislators ... not the BoE.

I am concerned there is not enough attention to detail in the BOE budget overall and Mrs. BrakewoodRead More comment about keeping taxes affordable ... where does she live ? they are out of control and in my opinion the money we pay for taxes we should have the best looking schools anywhere ... just my opinion
