Remember the sweet smell wafting from the Lifesavers building? The pick-up basketball games at the Don Bosco Center? The endless racks of albums and bootlegs at the Vinyl on Main Street?
If you're got a favorite memory from Port Chester, chances are lots of other people share it.
A new Facebook page is allowing Port Chester residents past and present to connect on common ground as they reminisce digitally, on everything from throwing stink bombs in class at Port Chester High School, to going to the old Woolworth's for a rootbeer float.
The page and the many memories shared by more than 2,200 users form a disjointed but vivid picture of a changing village and the people who live here.
"What rich and wonderful and diverse childhoods we all had in Port Chester," one poster wrote. "I had an Irish neighbor, Italian neighbors, Greek neighbors who had wonderful cooking smells coming from their house, and Cuban neighbor who sang opera in the shower!"
Current conversations include tales of an infamous former Port Chester High School truancy officer, the trolley that connected Port Chester and Greenwich before the advent of the bus system, and several threads on former restaurants in town. Join in on the fun by visiting "Ya Probably From Port Chester If..." on Facebook.
