Today is 'Rose Veltri Day' in Port Chester

Port Chester celebrates Westchester Teen Idol winner.

After an amazing perforamce in November to win the 2012 Westchester Teen Idol competition, Port Chester High School Student Rose Veltri has earned another honor.

Today is "Rose Veltri Day" in Port Chester.

The Port Chester village Board of Trustees on Monday night voted to honor Veltri with the declaration of a day in her honor. Port Chester Mayor Dennis Pilla congratulated Veltri for her winning ways.

Veltri won in a competition at Irvington Town Hall Theater. To take the title, Veltri sang "Maybe This Time" from Cabaret and "Astonishing" from Little Women.

Pleasantville Music Theater, a Westchester-based non-profit community theater organization, organizes the Westchester Teen Idol competition. Teen vocalists between ages 13-19 are invited to compete. Veltri also performed in the competition last year.

At Port Chester High School, Veltri is president of the Tri-M Music Honor Society. Tri-M, an acronym for “Modern Music Masters,” is an international music honor society for high school students, sponsored by the National Association for Music Education.
