Sample Cuisine from Around the World with 'A Taste of Port Chester'

The fund-raiser to benefit Port Chester schools will take participants on a culinary tour of the best local restaurants.

With almost two weeks to go until hundreds of people climb aboard chartered buses for a tour of "the restaurant capital of Port Chester," organizers continued to spread the word Monday as they installed banners spanning the width of Main Street.

"" will offer participants a pass to a growing list of restaurants on and near the village's Main Street corridor, highlighting the best eateries and culture Port Chester has to offer.

Best of all, it's for a good cause: proceeds from the event will benefit the Tamarack Tower Foundation, a local non-profit that raises money for Port Chester schools. The Tamarack Tower Foundation funds a wide range of programs, from SAT preparation courses to scholarships and special events like .

Some 20 restaurant owners had signed up to participate when the foundation first announced the fund-raiser, but since then the list has swelled to 26, said Joan Gargone, vice president of the organization.

That list includes favorite local establishments old and new, from Indian cuisine at and South American fare at , to newcomers like and . A $25 pass buys participants a wristband and access to all participating restaurants for the afternoon, as well as spots on chartered buses that will cart hungry crowds between restaurant hotspots.

The tour will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 5. For $25 in advance (or $30 the day-of), participants will get access to almost two dozen eateries in the village, plus rides on a chartered bus to cart them to restaurants across town.
