Red Cross Gets $1,000 Donation to Help Hurricane Sandy Relief from Port Chester, Rye Brook Churches

Funds raised at MLK Day celebration.

Gathering a St. Paul's Church on King Street in Rye Brook this morning, local clergy met with an American Red Cross representative to hand over a $1,000 donation from funds raised at a Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration in Port Chester.

The celebration took place at All Souls Chuch in Port Chester and the fundraiser was designed to help victims of Hurricane Sandy. The donation was presented to Grace Young of the Red Cross by Pastor Jim O'Hanlon of St. Paul's, the Rev. Hilario Albert of St. Peter's, Bishop Robert Girtman of the Church of the Living God and the Rev. Gerald Washington of Bethesda Baptist Church.

Rev. Washington said he and the other clergy members wanted to make sure that "every penny" of the donations went toward helping those hit hardest by the hurricane.
