Port Chester's Troop 400 has its First Eagle Scout

College student reaches top rank in Boy Scouts.

Adam "AJ" Monis is the first Eagle Scout for Port Chester's Troop 400 Boys Scouts unit.

An Eagle Court of Honor took place on Sunday to officially celebrate the college student's completion of the requirements for scouting's highest rank.

In the ceremony, Troop 400 Scout Master Moe Acevedo recognized Monis for his achievement.

As part of his effort to become an Eagle Scout, Monis, 18, who is a student at Westchester Community College, built an outdoor study area at Port Chester Middle School.

Troop 400 was formed just two years ago with six members. The troop, based out of Port Chester's Carver Center, now has 18 scouts and is growing.

Monis is hoping to move on to become an adult scout leader with the troop.

Congratulations Adam and please allow me to also welcome you to the Eagle Ranks. You, your family and friends should all be very proud of all that you have acomplished. It wasn't easy I know. Nothing good ever is. This effort will be a part of you for the rest of your life and no one can ever take that away from you. My advice to you now is to take your leadership skills and share what you've learned with other young men and women who also desire to make our Community and our Country a better place in which to live. Job very well done. Neil Pagano
