Port Chester, Rye, Rye Brook Relay for Life Kick Off at The Capitol

Communities join together to help support American Cancer Society.

Members of the Port Chester, Rye Brook and Rye communitieis are set to join forces Thursday night to help fight cancer.

They are kicking of their 2013 Relay for Life campaign for the American Cancer Society with a party from 6:30 – 9 p.m. at The Capitol Theatre on Westchester Avenue in Port Chester. 

The party is designed to help volunteers in the Relay for Life effort prepare for the June 15 Relay for Life event on June 15 at Port Chester Middle School, where participants will be walking in relays from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

At tonight's party, entertainment includes DJ Skyler plus student musical groups.  There will be speakers and a Luminaria Ceremony. Established Relay For Life teams will also be running fundraisers at the event.

The party is free and open to those interested in learning about or participating in Relay For Life. Food is being provided by local venues and there will be speeches by community members and cancer survivors - along with information on the American Cancer Society and Relay For Life. 

So far, 45 teams and 165 participants have raised more than $7,200 in the Port Chester, Rye Brook and Rye Relay for Life effort. To find out more - or to donate - click here.

First, our property values are not as strong as our neighbors, so our homes have a higher levy in order to fund the schools. Second, and more important, is that the reliance on property taxes slams moderate income communities like PC. We need for the state to move to an income tax to fund schools. Scream at your legislators ... not the BoE.

I am concerned there is not enough attention to detail in the BOE budget overall and Mrs. BrakewoodRead More comment about keeping taxes affordable ... where does she live ? they are out of control and in my opinion the money we pay for taxes we should have the best looking schools anywhere ... just my opinion
