Port Chester Rabbi Honored For Commitment To Community, Israel

Rabbi Jaymee Alpert leads Congregation Kneses Tifereth Israel of Port Chester.

Port Chester's Rabbi Jaymee Alpert is one of three Westchester rabbis who will be honored in early May by the Port Chester-Rye Brook-Rye Chapter of Hadassah.

The three rabbis will be honored "for their commitment to Israel and their community," according to the group. They'll also mark the 100th anniversary of Hadassah, an international Jewish organization that advocates for Israeli causes and maintains health and educational facilities in Israel.

Alpert, who joined in 2005, is a chaplain for the Port Chester Fire Department and serves as president of the Westchester County Board of Rabbis.

Hadassah will also honor Rabbi Howard J. Goldsmith of Congregation Emanu-el of Rye, and Rabbi Daniel Gropper of Community Synagogue in Rye.

The event, which also serves as a fundraiser for the group, is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Sunday, May 6, at the Hyatt Regency Greenwich. Proceeds of the brunch will support Hadassah's work in health care, medical research, education and youth services in Israel. For more information, call Nori Goldsmith at 914-934- 9100.
