New York is the second-worst state to make a living, behind only Hawaii, according to a new study by MoneyRates.com.

MoneyRates reports:

"Incomes in the state may be above average, but when you factor in a high cost of living and a high state income tax, New Yorkers come out behind the typical worker. A relatively high unemployment rate does not help, and neither does its low ranking for work environment."

What do you think? Vote in the poll above and sound off in the comment section below.

its impossible to live on Long Island if you are a one income family, with the cost of a house, taxs, and utilities. cant wait to see what PSEG is going to do with their rates !!!!!!!!

Term limits for all elected officials at every level. All new employees at every level beginning in Jan 1, 2015 should be on a 401K system. As a hardworking taxpayer I should not be subsidizing the medical or pension for anyone, I have to save for my own like most other people. Folks remember the public school system is a government run operation, and they get the lions share of your tax bill. For once I would like to see my taxes go down? It is a shame the young people do not stay here there is nothing to do no industry no decent paying jobs. Who wants to work just to pay taxes here. There is just to much corruption and greed here.

Taxes aren't the issue for me here. It's the high rents, high cost of childcare, and high cost of almost everything else, with no subsidies for pretty much anything if you're middle class. I am a single dad, and I make what would be a really good living in most places, but here it's barely enough to get by.
