PCHS Juniors to Receive Scholarships at Carver Center Today

Each student will receive $2,500 in scholarship money thanks to the Carver Center and the Kelly Grant Fund.

Three Port Chester High School juniors will get an early jump on the college application process when they're presented with scholarships later today.

Juniors Artur Szerejko, Yumiko Philips and Thalia Soriano will each receive $2,500 in scholarship money through a partnership between the Port Chester School District, the and the Kelly Grant Fund.

Unlike other scholarships, the Kelly Grant Fund money isn't tied to tuition fees, giving the students more options such as using a portion of the money for the admissions process.

“This is the first year the Carver Center has been able to offer such a grant, and we were very pleased and impressed with the high caliber of students applying for it," said Kerry Walsh, Carver's executive director. "It was a very competitive application process, and every student who applied was exceptionally talented and presented very well."

Local leaders will present the scholarships to the juniors during a ceremony at the Carver Center at 5 p.m. today.
