Get Out Weekend Planner

Some ideas for weekend activities around the Sound Shore, including Port Chester's UnityMarch 2011.

Got your sights set on the weekend? We've got you covered. Here are six ideas to get your planning started.

1. UNITYMARCH 2011 AT CARVER CENTER

The Town of Rye will co-sponsor UnityMarch 2011 from 11:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. starting at the gym, 400 Westchester Ave., Port Chester on Saturday. The event will include entertainment and a parade, with a focus on unity and community through volunteerism, activism and participation.

Event organizers include grads Edward Eways and Mathew Vaughese. Participating organizations range from the y to Big Brothers/Big Sisters Family Services of Westchester.

Entertainers vary, from the local band Echo Station to unity rapper Tyrell Foust. Kerry Walsh, Carver Center’s executive director, will give the keynote speech. Various non-profits will set up informational tables throughout the gym.

2. PURCHASE LATIN JAZZ ORCHESTRA

Where/When: Purchase College, 735 Anderson Hill Road, Purchase. April 21, 7 p.m.

Why Go: Spend the night listening to this group of talented young musicians.

Where/When: , 1061 Boston Post Rd, Rye (Community Meeting Room). April 22, 3-4:40p.m.

Why Go: The kids are off from school and it's a great way to entertain them for a few hours.

Price: Free!

Why Go: Your teenager might not be too keen on this activity, but it will definitely benefit them in the long run. Call the library to register.

Why Go: If you are interested in buying a new home but feeling a little lost in the process, this workshop is ideal to get your questions answered.

Where/When: , 99 Dromore Rd, Scarsdale, NY. April 23, 1 - 3:30p.m.

Why Go: Head over to neighboring Scarsdale and get your hands dirty in honor of Earth Day. Kids and adults can plant and help spruce up the Nature Center grounds.
