[POLL] Day Trips: Have Fun (and Learn Something, too) on the Long Island Sound

Catch a wave and enjoy a sail on the schooner “SoundWaters.”

If you’re looking for a family outing on the cooling waters of Long Island Sound, check out the schooner “SoundWaters,” sponsored by the environmental education non-profit of the same name just a short drive from Port Chester in Stamford, CT.

The gorgeous 80 foot schooner sails from downtown Stamford for two hour family cruises each Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 3 p.m. ($20 per passenger).  And, there are adult-oriented Sunset cruises Saturdays and Sundays at 6:30 p.m. ($30 per passenger).

The ship can handle up to 40 passengers, but you’ll never feel crowded. In addition to helping the crew hoist the sails, kids can learn about the environment and aquatic life of Long Island Sound from well trained, kid-friendly instructors.

Guests are welcome to bring their own beverages and snacks for the daytime sailings.  Adult beverages are OK for the sunset cruises (in moderation).

For landlubbers, SoundWaters offers a great in Stamford’s , but you do need a city parking pass to get access.

Linda T., I would guess Mrs. Brakewood lives in Port Chester if she is running for the Port ChesterRead More Board of Ed. Even if the schools had to impose an austerity budget, your taxes would still go up. The state has more control in these matters than you think.

Linda, the per pupil expenditure in PC schools is the lowest in Westchester and Rockland countiesRead More ... by about $2,000 per student. The issue is two fold. First, our property values are not as strong as our neighbors, so our homes have a higher levy in order to fund the schools. Second, and more important, is that the reliance on property taxes slams moderate income communities like PC. We need for the state to move to an income tax to fund schools. Scream at your legislators ... not the BoE.

I am concerned there is not enough attention to detail in the BOE budget overall and Mrs. BrakewoodRead More comment about keeping taxes affordable ... where does she live ? they are out of control and in my opinion the money we pay for taxes we should have the best looking schools anywhere ... just my opinion
