At the Bronx Zoo: LEGO Wildlife Sculptures Inspire Visitors

New exhibits, activities set to begin on Saturday.

The Wildlife Conservation Society’s is taking visitors on a conservation journey through Wild Forest: A LEGO Safari, featuring LEGO wildlife sculptures and activities for the whole family.

LEGO Master Builders have created a safari of LEGO brick wildlife sculptures on display along a wooded path near Zoo Center. Visitors will see lemurs, a tiger, hornbills, rhinos, gorillas, flamingoes, a giraffe, and other exotic wildlife along their trek and can visit their real-life counterparts throughout the zoo.

The safari brings to life the challenges faced by wildlife due to habitat loss and real threats to their survival. The goal of the program is to connect young minds to nature and inspire visitors to help build a future for wildlife.

At the LEGO Construction Zone at the Dancing Crane pavilion, visitors will be able to construct LEGO wildlife sculptures and take part in the construction of a mystery mural. Guests can work with LEGO Master Builders one weekend a month on the Reptile House lawn.

In addition to the LEGO fun, the Wildlife Theater will perform for guests as along the safari path. Guests are also invited to create their own animal prints and puppets based on the zoo’s African animals with the help of artists from the Museum for African Art.

An original production of Avenue ZOO – featuring a guest appearance by Kate Monster, the beloved puppet star of the Tony Award-winning musical AVENUE Q – is set for the stage at Asia Plaza. The popular musical has been extended with performances twice a day Thursday to Sunday through Sunday, Sept. 9. Avenue ZOO tells a tale where Kate Monster meets exotic animals and discovers that though they may seem strange and different, they are not so scary after all.

Finally, visitors can find their inner animal on the Animal Activity Trail. Learn to move like an animal while exploring the Bronx Zoo.  Everyone can run, jump, dance, and crawl as they visit some of their favorite wild animals throughout the park.

A full listing of activities and exhibits included in WILD FOREST – A LEGO Safari can be found at www.bronxzoo.com.

Here's all the information anyone would need to choose the most prepared, competent andRead More knowledgeable candidate. Watch the debate for yourself: http://vimeo.com/65783040

Hi, Thank you both for the feedback. Aiden, were you trying to post as a board message? There mightRead More have been some kind of technical glitch that our IT team is working out. In regards to your other comments, I urge you to give it a little time to get used to. The little bell at the top right of the page has a red circle with a number in it to tell you that someone has commented or interacted with something you have done so you should be able to go there and see exactly what is going on in the places where you posted. I hope this helps!

I agree with Aidan. I would check the Patch once a day for the articles, but several times to seeRead More how a discussion progressed. With the new format, that method is virtually impossible.

Btw, I tried for twenty minutes to post this as a new thread ... I finally gave up because pageRead More after page did zero ... just spun me nowhere. A waste.

Linda T., I would guess Mrs. Brakewood lives in Port Chester if she is running for the Port ChesterRead More Board of Ed. Even if the schools had to impose an austerity budget, your taxes would still go up. The state has more control in these matters than you think.
Aidan May 15, 2013 at 07:09 pm
Linda, the per pupil expenditure in PC schools is the lowest in Westchester and Rockland countiesRead More ... by about $2,000 per student. The issue is two fold. First, our property values are not as strong as our neighbors, so our homes have a higher levy in order to fund the schools. Second, and more important, is that the reliance on property taxes slams moderate income communities like PC. We need for the state to move to an income tax to fund schools. Scream at your legislators ... not the BoE.

I am concerned there is not enough attention to detail in the BOE budget overall and Mrs. BrakewoodRead More comment about keeping taxes affordable ... where does she live ? they are out of control and in my opinion the money we pay for taxes we should have the best looking schools anywhere ... just my opinion
