Nearly 400 students rejoiced in the conferment of their degrees at Manhattanville’s 2014 doctoral and masters commencement Thursday, May 15. Keynote, IBM Vice President of Finance for the Western United States, and Manhattanville alumnus ‘80, John Shaw, became the recipient of an honorary degree.
“It is with great pleasure that I announce that the board of trustees has approved that The School of Graduate and Professional Studies change its name to The School of Business,” President Jon Strauss announced.
The dean of The School of Business, Dr. Anthony Davidson, added, "The name change reflects the evolution and responsiveness of its curriculum over the past 20 years to the needs of today's business. We equip our graduate students with the applied skills to become business leaders."
Shaw then delivered a practical and encouraging message on the four most important aspects of life and business: listening, learning, leading, and loving.
“Good leaders have intellect, drive, and passion; great leaders are able to motivate individuals, teams, and organizations to perform at a level they never thought they were capable of,” Shaw said. “Resolve now to love what you do, learn from your challenges and your mistakes … and maintain a work/life balance with friends and family.”
“You’re to become the next generation of leaders,” Shaw said.
