Celebs to Attend ‘Pop Goes the Culture’ Show in White Plains

Westchester will take a trip down memory lane on Saturday with its first Pop Goes the Culture variety show.

Presented by A-Sides with Jon Chattman, in association with The Digital Arts Experience, Pop Goes the Culture is an evening of “pop-stalgia” filled with meaningful performances and meaningless -- but well-intentioned -- awards.

Held at the White Plains Performing Arts Center in White Plains, the event promises to be a wildly entertaining and unforgettable night of comedy, music, and more.

Emceed by popular White Plains-based comedian Carlos A. Hernandez, Pop Goes the Culture recognizes the best and brightest in 80s and 90s pop culture history as it relates to Westchester. Wrestling legend Jimmy ‘Superfly’ Snuka, whose autobiography Superfly recently hit shelves and was co-written by Chattman, will receive the Lifetime Achievement of Pop Culture Award, while 80s Icon Slim Goodbody will be honored with the Body of Work Lifetime Achievement Award. Other honorees include TV icons The Magic Garden’s Paula and Carole, as well as ‘30 Rock’ actor Grizz Chapman and more. Attendees will have the pleasure of meeting the event’s famous honorees after the show and Jimmy ‘Superfly’ Snuka will be signing copies of his autobiography.

Giving out good-natured awards will not be the only thing going on that night. The event will also feature live music and comedy acts from the county and beyond. House band Wild Adriatic will set the mood with songs from their “Lock & Key” EP. The event will also feature performances by NYC-band J. Aims and The Fever, Irvington and Connecticut’s Goodnite Gracie, Yonkers-based pianist Gary Chattman, rocker Anna Rose, and Mary C. and the Stellars, an eclectic pop/soul group.

“There is a world of talent in Westchester and a lot outside of our walls yet it’s hard to see a great show in the county,” explained Chattman, who noted this event will fall under his new promotions banner with the Digital Arts Experience’s CEO Robert Kissner. “Pop Goes the Culture is only the beginning of what we have planned!”

Tickets for Pop Goes the Culture are $10 in advance and can be purchased online atwww.popgoestheculture.eventbrite.com. Day-of tickets at the door are $15. Show starts at 7:00 pm. For the best seating selection, visit www.wwppac.com.

About A-Sides with Jon Chattman

Informal. Exclusive. Not the same broken record. A-Sides with Jon Chattman is a music series featuring new and established artists from all genres in a relaxed performance setting. The informal series focuses on the artist making art in a non-threatening, sometimes humorous way. No bells, no whistles – just the music performed in a random, low-key setting followed by an unrehearsed chat. In an industry where things are often overblown and over-manufactured, A-Sides is a breath of fresh air.

Hi, Thank you both for the feedback. Aiden, were you trying to post as a board message? There mightRead More have been some kind of technical glitch that our IT team is working out. In regards to your other comments, I urge you to give it a little time to get used to. The little bell at the top right of the page has a red circle with a number in it to tell you that someone has commented or interacted with something you have done so you should be able to go there and see exactly what is going on in the places where you posted. I hope this helps!

I agree with Aidan. I would check the Patch once a day for the articles, but several times to seeRead More how a discussion progressed. With the new format, that method is virtually impossible.

Btw, I tried for twenty minutes to post this as a new thread ... I finally gave up because pageRead More after page did zero ... just spun me nowhere. A waste.

Linda T., I would guess Mrs. Brakewood lives in Port Chester if she is running for the Port ChesterRead More Board of Ed. Even if the schools had to impose an austerity budget, your taxes would still go up. The state has more control in these matters than you think.
Aidan May 15, 2013 at 07:09 pm
Linda, the per pupil expenditure in PC schools is the lowest in Westchester and Rockland countiesRead More ... by about $2,000 per student. The issue is two fold. First, our property values are not as strong as our neighbors, so our homes have a higher levy in order to fund the schools. Second, and more important, is that the reliance on property taxes slams moderate income communities like PC. We need for the state to move to an income tax to fund schools. Scream at your legislators ... not the BoE.

I am concerned there is not enough attention to detail in the BOE budget overall and Mrs. BrakewoodRead More comment about keeping taxes affordable ... where does she live ? they are out of control and in my opinion the money we pay for taxes we should have the best looking schools anywhere ... just my opinion
