Clay Art Center is pleased to present Lydia C. Thompson: Transitions, a solo exhibition of ceramic sculptures that blends the narratives of urban and rural human migration.
The artist states, “My current research investigates the ideas of migration and residual ancestral memories that examine space and place that reference human existence. Through continuous mobility and the physical process of reduction made by nature, human beings create pathways that explore physical space that may produce visual silence, evoke the imagination, offer notions of commodities and value, and illustrate a sense of desperation that provides insights into various cultural practices and traditions. My works are reminders of the past and current lessons that we need to learn about the persistence and preservation of one’s own culture. My relic series references dilapidated and vacant houses that exist in urban and rural communities. These houses often tell multiple stories about communities that have evolved and changed over time. With this work, I hope to trigger memories that have been suppressed about home loss or evoke emotions that symbolize hope and rejuvenation. It also asks the question of who takes ownership and responsibility for the built environment.”
A hands-on workshop with the artist will take place on Saturday, April 27th from 9am - 4pm. Details and registration are available on our website.

Spring Ahead: Navigating the Independent School Admission Process

Manhattanville College

Charis Chamber Voices present Johann Sebastian Bach’s monumental St. John Passion, 300 years after its premiere. Performances are Saturday May 4, 7 pm, in the O'Byrne Chapel at Manhattanville College in Purchase and Sunday May 5, 4 pm, at the First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan. Artistic Director Jeremy Wiggins conducts. 
The starring role of the Evangelist will be sung by Grammy-nominated British tenor Ryland Angel and international bass-baritone Christopher Grundy will sing the role of Jesus. Concertmaster Nelva TeBrake has assembled some of the finest Baroque instrumentalists in the NY region. ​The work will be sung in its original German. 
 
Saturday night’s performance will include a pre-concert lecture at 6pm. ​​Charis’s famous wine &amp; cheese reception will follow each concert. 
 
Tickets are $30 ($25 for seniors and $20 for students). They may be purchased in advance through the Charis website, <a href="https://www.CharisVocals.com" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.charisvocals.com</a>, or at the door.
 
Charis is an auditioned chorus of about 30 men and women from Westchester County, NY, and Fairfield County, CT. Founded in 1994, the group is renowned for its diverse repertoire, unique blend of voices and captivating performances.

The fair will be held in historic Nyack on Sunday, May 19, from 10 to 5 with over three hundred exhibitors from four states lining downtown Main Street, Broadway and Cedar Streets. An excellent selection of arts &amp; crafts, new retail items, home décor &amp; unique gifts await you and where you will find something for everyone. 
For the foodie’s delicious festival foods will be available such as Cousins Food truck, Mac &amp; Cheese, Chicken Fingers, Sausage &amp; Peppers, Greek Food, Jamaican, Fish, Zeppole, New York Soda Jerks, delicious desserts and so much more. Nyack's outdoor restaurants will be participating with fair specials. Also be sure to check out Nyack’s many boutiques and shops lining downtown.
