Thanks, Bea. I saw this list in the Westmore News. Thank you for giving me permission to post it on Read Morethe Patch. Every property owner in the village should read it because -- the way things stand now -- sooner or later they'll need to get a new Certificate of Occupancy from the Building Department. The experience of getting one can seem never ending, unnecessarily complex, remarkably expensive and -- to put it mildly -- infuriating. Port Chester reminds me of a song: "Hotel California". You can get in, but can you ever get out? This amnesty program has got to go before more innocent people harmed, if not ruined by it.

This is a ray of hope in what's been a very dark era for Port Chester.

This is a ray of hope in what's been a very dark era for Port Chester. Congratulations to the newRead Morech ief of police, and thanks to the members of the Board of Trustees who decided to vote their consciences, rather than succumb to coercion and intimidation.

This is a true professional who will lead the Port Chester Police Department out of this stuporRead Morethey have been in. His record is filled with experience, honesty and hard work. The Port Chester Police Department is a good PD but they have had really terrible "leadership" over the past few decades. Chief Conway can turn that around. Outstanding selection!

The amnesty program will generate many millions of dollars in revenue for the village. It's noRead Morewonde r the program is viewed as a "cash cow" and a "shakedown" of innocent property owners. When will this travesty end? I believe the answer to that is whenever enough property owners have experienced the new process for getting a Certificate of Occupancy and reached their boiling points. Until you have experienced it on a personal level, you don't really know what a monstrosity of a program the past two Boards of Trustees have concocted and dumped on a naive and unsuspecting public.

If Port Chester BOT is smart, they will not allow Starwood to Build on the United Hospital Site,Read Morethe y should have Starwood sell that Property back to another Big Hospital Corporation. Port Chester and all the surrounding Villages depended on United hospital for fast, efficient and great medical care. Greenwich and Valhalla cannot provide the same quality health services as United which was the ideal location for a hospital. It appears the previous generations of those in authority were a lot smarter then our current Board.

"2012: Firefighter Treasurer Peter Miley On Further FD Cuts" Enter that in a searchRead Moreengine and see the video. As Anne Latella asks above, how could he have been the Building Inspector in Port Chester while being a "Firefighter Treasurer" in New Rochelle? Maybe the Board of Trustees thinks it's okay for a full-time employee of theirs to simultaneously hold what appear to be two full-time jobs. Maybe someone reading this can shed some light on the situation.

The property owners in Port Chester need to wake up and speak to one another about the way they'reRead Moreb eing treated by the village. As Bea Conetta has said many times, there are lots of horror stories out there caused by the amnesty program and overly aggressive code enforcement. The FBI investigated the Building Department a few years ago, and the BD was shut down twice. Were the homeowner records that were taken as evidence ever returned? Maybe that's why so many people are being falsely accused of missing paperwork and consequently being put through hell. Also, we were told some records had been lost in a flood, but the village manager recently said they have ALL of the records. Nothing has been lost, acccording to Chris Steers. He found some boxes in a basement and poof, everything's complete, according to him. There needs to be an investigation. I have heard too many stories of outright abuse of homeowners, including the renowned "moving of the goal posts." By that I mean just when a homeowner thinks he's done fixing things to the village's satisfaction, the homeowner gets hit with changes to the changes already made, or the addition of a few more things that need to be fixed that weren't caught during earlier inspections. It can take many thousands of dollars and many months of angst to get a CO and then an additional several months or more to actually have one in hand. According to the village, most if not all property owners need new Certificates of Occupancy. That's over 5,500 properties that had been declared fit for occupancy by the village and then with a wave of a hand suddenly rendered illegal. That's absurd, according to every attorney, realtor and banker I've spoken with in NY and CT.

I want to thank Anne Latella, Bea Conetta, Silvio, Frank B. and everyone else who cares enough toRead Morepo st their opinions on the Patch and anywhere else, including the Westmore News. Too few people care enough to stay current on events in Port Chester. Even fewer bother to state their views. It's no wonder Port Chester's quality of life has been in steep decline. Apathy and complacency run deep in Port Chester and the politicians take full advantage of it.
