This is a ray of hope in what's been a very dark era for Port Chester.

This is a ray of hope in what's been a very dark era for Port Chester. Congratulations to the newRead Morech ief of police, and thanks to the members of the Board of Trustees who decided to vote their consciences, rather than succumb to coercion and intimidation.

This is a true professional who will lead the Port Chester Police Department out of this stuporRead Morethey have been in. His record is filled with experience, honesty and hard work. The Port Chester Police Department is a good PD but they have had really terrible "leadership" over the past few decades. Chief Conway can turn that around. Outstanding selection!

The amnesty program will generate many millions of dollars in revenue for the village. It's noRead Morewonde r the program is viewed as a "cash cow" and a "shakedown" of innocent property owners. When will this travesty end? I believe the answer to that is whenever enough property owners have experienced the new process for getting a Certificate of Occupancy and reached their boiling points. Until you have experienced it on a personal level, you don't really know what a monstrosity of a program the past two Boards of Trustees have concocted and dumped on a naive and unsuspecting public.

We need to elect people who will not treat Port Chester like their personal piggy bank.
Anne Latella July 05, 2014 at 04:28 PM
Amnesty is a hoax being played on the home and Building owners of the Village of Port Chester. TheRead MoreB uilding Inspector's Records Department were being paid handsomely to do their work correctly. Unfortunately they were negligent, inefficient and this led to gross negligence in effectively providing the services they were legally bound to give to the Home and Building Owners. It is their responsibility to rectify the errors made by their former employees and can in no way be the responsibility of the Home and Building owner who had every legal right to expect that department was doing their work properly. This Building department is now placing once again the responsibility and payment for their errors on the Home and building owners. In legal terms this is called double jeopardy. If this case goes to court the Village BOT and Building Inspector and /village Manager should be held personally responsible for failure to correct mistakes made prior and currently within their Department. I say personally because it is not the taxpayers fault and therefore if the village employees do not correct these mistakes made within their own department they should be held personally financially responsible, not those who they are attempting to hold responsible! They are currently running the department and they are responsible to correct their predecessors mistakes. They are being paid to rectify any mistakes made prior to their being hired. This is the way all legitimate businesses operate.

Perfectly said, Anne Latella. Let the lawsuits begin, IF that's what the people want. After all,Read Morethi s is still a nation of laws and certain important matters that can't be resolved by sitting down and reasoning together do tend to end up in court. However, I doubt there's a single attorney in Port Chester who would take on a homeowner's case involving the suing of a local politician or one of their appointees. And that speaks to the current climate of discourse in Port Chester where you have an 89-year-old woman single-handedly fighting for the rights of homeowners. Bea Conetta does the talking at BOT meetings because, after all, most homeowners need a NEW Certificate of Occupancy to sell at a decent price or to refinance, and they can't afford to alienate those local powers that be who provide them. As for intimidated, or shall we say reluctant, local attorneys, there are attorneys in White Plains and elsewhere who'd be happy to handle homeowner cases of the type you refer to above. The individuals who came up with the new amnesty/code enforcement program have violated a number of laws. Local and area attorneys have privately said as much -- and in no uncertain terms. I had to laugh when one, who shall remain nameless told me many months ago, "They didn't open Pandora's Box. They opened Pandora's Department Store."
