The sixth season of MTV’s “The Jersey Shore” may be a little toned down now that reality TV superstar and New York Times Best Selling Author Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi is a mom-to-be. “It will definitely be a different summer for me,” said Polizzi, 24. Each year, millions of people celebrate "May Day" which is today for those who were unaware and Martha Stewart gives some fun ways to engage in May Day fun.
Going back all the way to days of ancient Rome and ancient Greece, the Springtime festival has its roots in Celtic and Germanic festivals of old and is also associated with the old Pagan calendar as the halfway mark on the year. Traditionally, one of the key associations with the holiday, especially in England and even here in the U.S. is a Maypole, made from a tree such as birch and then decorated so that people from your town or village can dance and play around the pole. Mayday celebrations are widespread throughout the country and even in Westchester, like this one that Patch attended last year at Davenport Park in New Rochelle where there was music, the Maypole and even wild birds! But you don't have to leave the confines of your …

Two-night performance at Port Chester Senior Center was sponsored by Port Chester Council for the Arts.
The Port Chester Senior Center was turned into a small town in Maine on Friday and Saturday nights for the production of "Almost, Maine" — sponsored by the Port Chester Council for the Arts. “Almost, Maine” was written by John Cariani and was directed by Carin Zakes Green. The show was presented as part of the PCCFA’s 30th Anniversary Artist Series. The show reunited the director, cast and crew from a previously produced, sold-out three-weekend run at Connecticut’s Darien Arts Center in March 2011. The PCCA's Ann Peterson said the show "went beautifully" and pleased members of the organization. She noted the production at the senior center was made possible by the Port Chester Village Board's decision to waive fees for use of the space for…

Rarely has any performance elicited such heated altercation as this version of Verdi's La Traviata that closed the Met Opera's 2011-2012 HD Movie season. You either loved it or hated it with venom! Personally, I am a bit tired of trying to defend this contemporary, highly stylized, somewhat surrealistic production, simply by trying to accept the Director Willy Decker's concepts and praising the Met for sticking out its neck once again. I find it troublesome to defend because I think it simply did not work. Originally premiered at Salzburg, this production was picked up by the Met in 2010 and was now featured as a showpiece for Natalie Dessay, the delightful, highly talented French soprano, heralded as one of today's most successful singing…
