Rising Musical Stars To Shine At Port Chester Middle School

School set to host NYSSMA scholastic solo and ensemble evaluations.

There will be lots of music in the air on May 11 and 12 at Port Chester Middle School.

The school is again hosting the annual New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Spring Solo and Ensemble Evaluation Festival, at which about 2,000 students from lower Westchester County schools will perform for evaluation by certified adjudicators.

Among the participants will be brass, woodwind and percussion students as well as string players and vocalists. Students are assigned a 10- or 15-minute time slot depending on the level of their solo, and receive a grade and comments on their performance from their adjudicators.

Beginning with 6th-graders, this evaluation also serves as their tryout for the following year’s All-County, Area All-State and All-State performing groups.

Port Chester hosted the NYSSMA Festival in 1999, 2003 and 2006.
