Port Chester Police: 2 Charged In DWI Incidents

Both men accused of have more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in their systems.

A Port Chester man and a Connecticut man have been charged with drunken driving after separate incidents in Port Chester, according to .

In both cases, Port Chester police said the drivers were charged aggravated driving while intoxicated because they had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in their systems.

At around 2 a.m. on Thursday, police said Ignacio Moran, 57, of Meriden, CT, was was found passed out behind the wheel of a 2008 Mitsubishi on Westchester Avenue. The car's key was in the ignition and the car was running, police said.

A village police officer reached into the car, turned off the engine and removed the keys. Police said that when the officer woke up the driver, Moran tried several times to start the car — even though the key was gone — and tried to put the car in gear.

When questioned by police, Moran told a village officer that he thought he was in Connecticut. Moran was also cited for driving an unregistered vehicle.

At about 9 p.m. on Tuesday, police said they received reports of a possible drunken driver on Irving Avenue. A village officer checking the area stopped a Toyota Tacoma pick up truck driven by Byron Carpio, 57, of Port Chester for driving erratically.

Police said Carpio appeared intoxicated and that when he was asked for his driver's license and proof of vechicle registration, he handed a village officer a credit card.

Both men face hearings in Port Chester Village Court.
