Port Chester CYP Tournament Tip-Off is Tonight

Port Chester's tournament is famed for bringing future NBA and college superstars to the small court.

Locals will get a chance to see NBA-caliber talent tonight in tiny gym when the annual CYP Tournament tips off at 7:15 p.m.

Past hoops legends who have graced the small court in Port Chester include Elton Brand of the Philadelphia 76ers, former New York Knick Tim Thomas, and Lamar Odom of the Los Angeles Lakers.

Longtime fans of the tournament will remember Thomas launching three-pointers from halfcourt en route to piling up more than 40 points during a game a decade ago, and a lanky Odom patrolling the paint before he grew into his current NBA-sized body.

Although the tournament is well-known for its talent-rich teams – and this year is no different – it's equally infamous for the squeezed dimensions of the Our Lady of Mercy court. Players lining up for three-point shots literally have less than a wingspan's amount of room between the baseline and the walls of the small gym, resulting in a frenetic style of play reminiscent of 90s arcade game NBA Jam.

The Journal News has a round-up of this weekend's CYP action, including a schedule of games and a run-down of talent to keep an eye on this weekend. Check it out here.
