Police: 5 Cars Damaged in Port Chester DWI Accident

A Port Chester man who told police officers he was on his way to buy beer was charged with drunken driving early Sunday after he damaged four parked cars as he tried to get out of a driveway, according to Port Chester Police.

No one was injured in the incident, however, police said Carlos Hernincio Nivicela-Ayavaca, 34, of 84 Prospect St., Port Chester, damaged the car he was driving along with two cars parked in a driveway and two cars parked on Prospect Street.

Village police officers were called to 86 Prospect St. at 2:52 a.m. Sunday when residents reported hearing a crash on the street. Police said that officers investigating the incident found Nivicela-Ayavaca in his car, trying to back out of a driveway.

Village officers reached into the car and turned off the engine. At the time, police said Nivicela-Ayavaca appeared intoxicated and had an open can of beer in the car. When Nivicela-Ayavaca was questioned, police said, he told village officers he was on his way out to buy beer.

Police said Nivicela-Ayavaca was charged with driving while intoxicated and aggravated driving while intoxicated for having more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system. Nivicela-Ayavaca was also cited for unlicensed driving.

He faces a hearing in Port Chester Village Court.
