More Success In Year Two of Taste of Port Chester

About 25 restaurants were walking distance in the downtown area of Port Chester

With about 35 participating restaurants, this year's Taste of Port Chester proved to be a success on Sunday.

Popularity picked up this year as people walked from restaurant to restaurant in downtown Port Chester to sample some chef specialties, and for the places a little farther away, there were free bus shuttles on a loop.

"This is the second year we've done it. It was a fairly successful event last year. The turnout is bigger than last year so we've already surpassed last year in terms of participants, revenue and number of restaurants involved," said Bishop Nowotnik, president of the Tamarack Tower Foundation, adding that last year they only had 26 restaurants join in. "It's a great community event, plus it's a for a good cause. We end up raising money for Port Chester school system."

Organized by the Tamarack Tower Foundation, board members volunteered to run the event. They do a three-prong program: scholarships for graduating students, a grant program and endowment fund.

"As far as Port Chester goes, I think we're a little different from some of the other restaurants in the area," said Frank Taddei, assistant general manager of . "Food quality is great. Everything's made from scratch and we're right on the water. (It's important that we're) treating every (customer) like they're the only person here, not so much serving them food and drink, but creating a relationship so they come back."

"I think this is great. There are a lot of restaurants that we didn't even know about that now we're trying and now we want to go back," said Joy Rytelewski, who also attended Taste of Port Chester last year. "There were a couple places that you wouldn't try before because you didn't know how their food was, but now we can (try them out). You couldn't ask for better weather."
