Port Chester residents, families and neighbors gather on the waterfront to dance to the Latin musical stylings of La Avalancha during the third weekly installment of the village's summer concert series on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010.

Hundreds danced the night away on the waterfront to the sounds of claves and timbales Wednesday.

Missed the dancing? Check out our video and photo gallery of last night's festivities, which drew families, neighbors and people from out of town to the waterfront. They danced to the Latin musical stylings of La Avalancha during the third weekly installment of Dancing Under the Stars, the village's summer concert series.

Mayor Dennis Pilla, whose wife was born in Colombia, noted "art is something that transcends language." The idea for waterfront dancing came during discussions with his wife, and a brainstorming session on cultural events that would draw people from every part of the village.

"We're trying to transcend the cultural differences where we can," the mayor said.

Those differences are diminished every Wednesday as people from a wide cross-section of backgrounds shake and groove. Revelers moved to the sounds of swing and Italian standards earlier this month, and the series will close next week, with the Latin folk sounds of Cumbia.

For those looking to wave goodbye to summer with festive movement, the dancing starts at 7 p.m. at the downtown marina.
