Fire Ravages House On Willow Street

Families forced to evacuate 17 Willow St.; cause of fire still under investigation.

A fire broke out on the top two floors of a multi-family house on Willow Street in Port Chester while a volunteer firefighter happened to be working on plumbing on the ground floor.

A tenant on the top floor carried her birds down the steps and out the front door of the building saying there was a fire upstairs. The other nine tenants were not inside the building during the 45-minute blaze.

According to Port Chester fire officials, no one is injured, but the tenants may have to relocate to another house after extensive fire and water damage, including a damaged roof, have rendered the house uninhabitable.
