Port Chester Board of Trustees agenda lists him as replacement for retiring village clerk.

Former Rye Town Supervisor is on tonight's agenda for appointment as Port Chester's new village clerk and registrar of vital statistics.

He would, if appointed, replace retiring , who has agreed to remain in office until June 14. The proposed appointment is on the agenda even though the Board of Trustees has not interviewed any canidates for the post — a meeting set for last Wednesday was cancelled for lack of a quorum.

Mayor Dennis Pilla said he was surprised by the addition to tonight's agenda, especially since there have been no candidate interviews. Additionally, also on tonight's agenda is a concept that Pilla supports — merging the Port Chester Village Clerk's Office and the Rye Town Clerk's Office, making the town clerk the Port Chester village clerk at the same time.

Pilla said he is opposed to appointing Morabito to the post.

"Bob is a real nice guy, but I need someone with the right experience," said Pilla. "There's a lot of history with Bob, and frankly that's not something I want to get involved with."

Pilla contends Morabito's years as town supervisor did not prepare him for running the Village Clerk's Office, which includes running local elections.

Additionally, Pilla said a merger of the village and town clerks offices could get Port Chester grant money that would help the village modernize its records keeping system.

Morabito was the longtime Rye town supervisor until he was ousted by current Supervisor Joe .
